LOW RUNNING COSTS - MOVING HEAT FROM YOUR GARDEN INTO YOUR HOME
Heat pumps work by collecting heat from your garden and moving it into your home - essentially a refrigerator working in reverse. The technology works so well that even when freezing outside - your home is still warm and snug.

Best of all, because you are moving heat, rather than creating it by burning oil or gas, the system is much more efficient with average savings of between 50-70% on your annual running costs.

 THE RENEWABLE HEAT INCENTIVE (RHI)
What is it and what does it mean for heat pumps?
The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) is a Government initiative to be launched in April 2011 to reward homeowners who heat their homes with renewable heating technologies.  The RHI is a bid by the Government to enable the UK to provide 12% of its heating by renewable heat.  Ground and air source heat pumps use renewable solar energy stored in the ground and the air to provide 100% of the space heating and hot water requirements of a home.

What will it mean to me?
The amount of heat produced by each heat pump will be deemed through ICE ENERGY'S MCS accreditation rather than by heat metering.  This means that an assessment will be made on a property, taking into consideration it's age and construction, to determine how much heat is required by that building.  Each kilowatt-hour (kWh) of heat will be rewarded with a tariff value.  The proposed tariff levels per kWh are set out below:
Technology
Tariff level
Lifetime
Ground Source Heat Pump
(45 kW)
7p/kWh
23 years
Air Source Heat Pump
(45 kW)
7.5p/kWh)
18 years

How will it work in practice?
Ofgem will administer the levy payments from energy suppliers and will make regular RHI payments to homeowners.  To secure RHI payments the equipment must be purchased from and commissioned by an MCS accredited installer such as ICE ENERGY. Ofgem will then make annual payments directly to the owner of the equipment.
